Do's and Dont's of Social Networking

More and more it seems like every day social networks are washing up on the internet shoreline. Social networking is here to stay and professionals need to know all of the ends and outs to be prepared of the dos and don’ts. Popular networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace give people a social outlet to share their personal profiles, interest, and photos with the world around them.However, what they forget is whatever is posted on the internet it is fair game for all to view, copy, and judge, including future employees. Here is list of Do’s and Don’ts to consider when participating in social networking:
Do’s:
Be positive
Post things that are relevant
Update your profile regularly
Join groups selectively
Remember everyone can see it
Be careful of friend selection
Use it as networking tool
Be careful of what you post
Keep information about co-workers private
Participate in relevant sites
Don’t
Make negative remarks about your job
Share things you will regret later
Access profile during work hours and make it known
Share personal Information like address
Type something you wouldn’t say in real life
Post derogatory pictures or videos
Join negative groups
Post misspelled words frequently
Comment on statues that may cause you to be judged negatively

Today Social networking has a reputation of increasing our brand or decreasing it and now over twenty percent of employers today access the internet to find new employees. Most employers already know what they are looking for before they even meet you in person. Social networking falls between first impression and last impression, so social networking is the middle man to success. From now on when you decide to join any online networks, take a look at the rules of the business, because whether you like it or not, once it’s posted its fair game to all.
